Grazing Response Index (GRI) Workshop

Title: Grazing Response Index (GRI) Workshop
Location: Brandon Research Center Room 111A, Brandon, MB
Date: October 25th, 2013, 8:30 AM – 5 PM

Attend this FREE training for grazing management specialists on the Grazing Response Index (GRI) method.

The GRI is a science based tool developed in the United States, tested and promoted in central British Columbia, and recently tested in Saskatchewan and Manitoba. This tool facilitates decision making with a focus on achieving beneficial use of forage while maintaining vigorous plants. The tool can be easily understood by producers to foster appropriate management of rangelands and assist industry and science communities to communicate about plant responses in rangeland environments.

Guest Speaker: Dr. L. Roy Roath, Colorado State University
• Roy Roath has worked tirelessly to help land managers improve rangeland resources throughout the west and internationally since 1974 as a teacher, researcher and mentor to ranchers and conservationists interested in improving species diversity, watershed function, wildlife habitat and ranch profitability.
• He is a founding member of the Colorado Integrated Resource Management program and helped to develop a rancher cooperator model to demonstrate how ranchers could use a resource based approach to improve ranch profits.
• He has also developed the Grazing Response Index to help land managers plan and assess the effects of their grazing management actions on plant communities.
