HAGAN RANCH TOUR
JULY 7
1:30 PM

Ranch Details (more to follow):

  • 3200 acres of native grass

  • Cow/calf pairs and yearlings we have raised and bought in.

  • Over the last ten years we have learned a lot about how to graze this ranch to  make a living.

  • We also have lowland ground that’s species are made up of lower quality grasses that can withstand flooding for long periods. We have high sandy ground that is very brittle and can be overgrazed very quickly.

  • We have ramped up grazing every year it seems. It seems the tighter the group the cattle are in the better it is for the soil. We started moving every 2 weeks and now can be moving multiple times a day. That is a very tricky game! We have had to learn how to manage grazing for the grass and for the performance of our animals.

  • Focused on trying to build a cow herd using methods that leave us with a fertile early maturing easy fleshing animal that can wean a calf every year and be pushed to graze well into the winter and early in the spring.

  • Utilizing full season stockpile grass with protein supplement to get us grazing as early as March and as later as January.

  • We are still on a path of learning what works best and how to apply it here at our operation, that seems never ending but we are figuring out some practices that really do suit our needs.
